Sunset Catamaran from Tamarindo or Playa Flamingo?

5 min read

A sailing catamaran crossing calm Pacific water in orange evening light

Stay with a Tamarindo departure if convenience matters; choose Playa Flamingo when the four-hour catamaran with snorkelling and a meal matches your day. It costs €85.13 and has the most reviews of the four boats compared here. Its sunset is an option, not a given: the booking page promises one only when you select a sunset tour.

Four options, two departure areas

The real decision is not simply which boat costs less. A Tamarindo departure removes an extra road transfer if you are staying in town. Flamingo’s four-hour trip is shorter and explicitly lists several water activities plus lunch or dinner; whether you sail into the sunset depends on the departure you select. The 4.5-hour Tamarindo sailing trip describes a custom-built 66-foot catamaran, an open bar, food and a secluded-beach swim.

Sunset is only one part of the trip

Three of the four descriptions name swimming, snorkelling or other water activities; the Pacific Lounge cruise describes the bay seen from its rooftop instead. If you mainly want underwater time, compare what each description explicitly includes rather than treating every sunset cruise as identical. Sea conditions also decide whether a planned water activity is comfortable; the operator makes the day’s operational decision.

Which one fits

  • No extra journey: depart from Tamarindo.
  • Broadest stated activity list: the Flamingo catamaran.
  • Longest option: the five-hour Pacific Lounge cruise.
  • Food and drinks central to the afternoon: compare the two 4.5-hour Tamarindo descriptions; both include drinks and a meal.

Our recommendation

For most travellers staying in Tamarindo, the all-inclusive Tamarindo catamaran for €80.65 is the practical balance of a local departure and 4.5 hours on the water. If you are already near Playa Flamingo and want the sunset, choose a sunset departure of the Flamingo catamaran.
